UDA is seeking a talented, articulate professional architectural designer with 3-8 years of experience. The Design Architect position is a merit-based post offered to qualified candidates who have demonstrated strong design and technical skills to fulfill this. Primary responsibilities include supporting the team on Conceptual Design and Schematic Design efforts, managing small projects, and reinforcing the daily operations of the team. Prior experience in construction documents and construction observation is preferred. Exposure to urban design is also desirable.
Responsibilities:
- Lead design efforts and communicate with clients.
- Oversee development and execution of design ideas.

- Assist Project Manager and Principal-in-Charge with project schedules.
- Coordinate project team.
- Oversee the final production of deliverables.
- Assist principals and associates with report writing.
- Be accountable for the successful completion of projects.
- Mentor junior team members.

Skills required:
- Design experience in two or more of the following typologies: single family residential; multifamily residential; mixed-use; civic.
- Participation in architectural projects that address community design issues such as high-density living, public engagement, programming, neighborhood repair, and context.
- Ability to communicate verbally, in writing, and through drawings.
- Adeptness at hand drawing and sketching.
- Demonstrated creative ability, including urban, architectural, and graphic design.
- Project organization and management expertise.
- Proficient in Proficient in AutoCAD, the Adobe Suite, and SketchUp.
Education, Experience, Certification, and Licensure:
- Bachelor's degree or Master's Degree in architecture.
- 3-8 year professional experience in architecture.
- NCARB record toward licensure.
- Architects license (U.S.) preferred.
- Leed Accreditation preferred.
The Intermediate Designer will work closely with Junior Designers, Senior Designers and Design Directors to provide development, production support and co-ordination throughout the project delivery process as a member of the design team. A dependable, energetic individual with a "can-do" attitude and exceptional attention to detail, the Intermediate Designer is responsible for supporting the efforts of the design team to ensure the successful completion of the project. Project Administration:
- Completes and files correspondence and drawing files.
- Ensures accurate meeting notes are taken and reported to team members.
- Bi-Weekly time sheet completion.
Project Contribution:
- Involvement in most phases of the design process including programming, schematic design, design development and construction documents.
- Develops design drawings, construction documents, renderings, FF&E selection, specifications of products and materials, schedules and spec books.
- Renders conceptual design ideas and prepares 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings.
- Meets all deadlines for design deliverables.
- Prepares required layouts, sketches and space plans required to convey design intent.
- Assists with and/or prepares elements of project schematic/conceptual designs, under direction.
- Prepares presentation boards and materials, under direction.
- Attends on-site visits and field reviews, provides direction to outside contractors and vendors, under direction of senior team members.
- Assists with selection and research of project design materials, furnishings, specifications and equipment.
- Assists with the development of technical/design solutions.
- Assists in the preparation of client presentations.
- Assists in the estimation of material requirements and preliminary costs.
- Solicits bids and assists Project Manager and client in subcontracting fabrication, installation, and arrangement of the materials, finishes and furnishings required.
- May support the Construction Administration phase by responding to RFI’s, CO’s, and reviewing shop drawings.
- May provide support to all team members for specific field, style, or phase of interior design expertise.
Industry knowledge:
- Follows and speaks to current industry trends on space, function, decorative lighting, fabrics, furniture and equipment, etc.
- Develops innovative design concepts that are practical, aesthetic, safe and conducive to intended purposes and function and are reflective of client goals and within project budget.
Skills & qualifications
- Must be able to produce construction sets & detail drawings.

- Enjoys working in a fast paced, team oriented, deadline driven atmosphere.
- Extremely detail-oriented with exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal).

- Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, Sketch-Up, Adobe.
- Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Office programs.
- Possesses sound knowledge of interior design principles/practices.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design or Architecture.
- At least 5 years of demonstrated work experience with Interior Design and/or Architectural Firms.
