More specifically, Design Compendium has been providing retail clients with custom designed visual merchandising solutions, fixtures, and interiors, and more recently we have responded to the growing needs of the industrial, architectural, and interior design industries. We utilize our internal production capabilities as well as a vast network of trusted vendors to achieve superior craftsmanship across a variety of materials and finishes. We are seeking a junior architect / designer to work predominantly with our retail and hospitality clients, who possesses a minimum of 2-4 years experience (post college) in project management and design. We provide a one-stop shop for our customers, and take on a wide array of projects, from designing small one-off retail fixtures, to developing and executing complex feature elements in the hospitality industry, to implementing our designs for full interior environments (showrooms, pop-ups, etc.). You will work directly with clients and be responsible for developing their visual requirements from the concept phase to final production and installation. Furthermore, you will use your architectural design knowledge to assess projects with a strong focus on the design, aesthetic elements, and manufacturability. Key responsibilities include client interfacing, scheduling, quality control, budget development and cost control, adhering to aggressive deadlines, and interacting with multiple vendors. Problem solving and ability to apply practical judgment are required. Candidates must also possess working knowledge of fashion, color, product, and home interior design and trends.
The candidate must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills as client interaction and presentations are a large component of the job. A positive attitude and strong creative background is key to success in this position.
Specific Skills:
- 2-4 years experience (post college) in project management, architectural design, and computer design.
- CAD capabilities in the following programs – Adobe Creative Suite of products (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Sketchup, Rhino, Auto CAD, ArchiCAD.
- College degree required in Architecture or Interior Architecture ONLY with a 3.5 GPA in general requisite classes during college.
- Hand sketching capabilities.
- Extreme attention to detail.
- Organized and capable planner. Must be able to meet aggressive timelines.
- Mechanical aptitude. Knowledge of industrial and manufacturing process.
- Previous experience with variety of materials (woods, metals, acrylics) and finishes.
- Comfortable with use of hand and power tools.
- Driver’s license and clean driving record.
Please note this is a full-time position. Flexible scheduling is required: including occasional overnights and weekends will be required.
