The Architect reports to a Managing Architect or Managing Engineer, or a higher assignment level Architect or Engineer, and is responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed, to achieve the objectives of the Authority.
- Provides overall architectural coordination for projects; performs and/or supervises the preparation of scope, pre-schematic, schematic, preliminary and construction documents, including reports, drawings and specifications. Works with a wide range of technical, professional, managerial and support personnel as well as outside consultants, contractors, vendors and various government agencies.
- May function as project or team leader, reporting to Managing Architect or Engineer to plan and coordinate work with other Architects and Engineers; may direct Associate Architects / Engineers and Architectural / Engineering Technicians, working on several less complex design projects, up to and including small primary schools, partial modernizations, additions, leased space planning and Capital Improvement Projects.
- Conducts site observations, prepares field reports, assists in the preparation of punch lists and supervises the review of contractor's submittals.
- Performs design review for architectural portions of assigned projects.
- May be required to sign, seal and file architectural drawings and sign other documents.
- May serve as a member of project teams.
- Maintains and develops general understanding of engineering principles.
- May provide input, if requested, in employee performance evaluations.
- Performs related tasks.

AB Architekten is a design-focused, full-service architecture firm located in Lower Manhattan. Our work includes multi-family housing, private residences, interior design, and gut renovations. We are seeking a smart, energetic, and highly motivated Intermediate Architectural Designer to join our studio to work on a variety of new ground-up construction projects in New York.
This position is suited to those who are interested in: working independently on multiple projects as well as collaboratively within a fast-paced and creative team environment; playing a meaningful role in all phases of projects; working directly with clients, contractors, and consultants.
Candidate should possess the following:
- 5-year Bachelor of Architecture degree or higher.
- Between 3 and 7 years of architectural office experience, NYC experience a plus.
- Experience with production of construction drawings.
- Knowledge of construction detailing and materials.
- Experience with Construction Administration.
- Project management and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and consultants.
- Strong knowledge of AutoCad and 3-D (Rhino/V-Ray), Photoshop and InDesign.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Knowledge of NYC building codes, filing process, and zoning regulations is a plus.
- Salary based on skill level and experience with potential for rapid advancement.
