A growing boutique design / build and expediting architecture firm in Soho / Tribeca area is seeking a proactive and highly organized architect with exceptional technical and managerial skills. Approximately 10 years of experience is required. Potential candidates must be familiar with NYC building code and zoning regulations, and have demonstrable knowledge and fluency with the agency filing process in NYC. Successful candidates will be responsible for managing a wide range of projects from zoning studies to close out, and will work directly with the firm's principals. While design sense is important, the right candidate will have a background rich with technical knowledge and experience. Significant production experience is also required as is the ability to create complete drawing sets independently, or by leading small teams.
Responsibilities:
- Project Architect and Manager on a wide variety of projects including new buildings.
- Manage production of documentation for all phases (Concept through CA).
- Establish design criteria and track project compliance with zoning and building codes.
- Manage and mentor junior staff, particularly relative to the technical aspects of the work.
- Review and approve shop drawings, RFIs and other submittals.
- Review construction details and specifications, and write specifications.
- Draft communications to city agencies on various subjects such as zoning, code, landmarks, and other substantive issues.
Requirements:
- Approximately 10 year’s post-grad experience, with at least 8 years experience working on NYC based projects.
- Experience as lead Project Manager on several projects, particularly large scale commercial and residential ground up buildings.
- NYC project experience - minimum of eight years.
- Highly proficient with AutoCAD for creation of CDs, Bid and DOB filing sets; Revit a plus.
- Significant production experience and ability to complete drawing deliverables at a rapid pace.
- Minimum of five years managing staff.
- Technical expertise more important than design.
- Strong knowledge of commercial exterior detailing.
- Ability to complete projects from start to finish within a prescribed timeline.

Responsibilities include:
- Preparing design drawings and details under supervision of our principal designer.
- Space planning and layout.
- Specification of lighting, finishes, and color coordination.
- Creating Architectural and FFE spec books.
- Researching new materials and potential vendors.
- Preparing client presentations, including concept images, drawings, and 3D renderings.
- Assisting in construction administration including responding to RFI’s, preparing sketches and addendums.
- Coordinating design execution with contractors and vendors.
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited Masters or Bachelor of Architecture or Interior Design degree program or related combination.
- Strong design skills and eagerness to learn the design trade.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Strong computer drafting and technical skills including proficiency with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, Photoshop, and other related design software.
